Townland signs delayed by RPA
With reorganisation of public administration (RPA) looming, officials in Larne want to be assured of a consistent approach in Ballymena and Carrickfergus. The three boroughs are to merge under a single authority under RPA.
Several councillors are pressing for the preservation of old townlands names and deputy mayor Mark McKinty recently submitted a written question, seeking news of progress.

Hide AdOfficers told him it is Larne council policy that where replacement or new street nameplates are erected beyond 30mph speed limits around urban areas they will be “endorsed” with the local townland name. The townland is to be denoted on a secondary line, in red, with the letters TD appended at the end.
To date, 80 signs across the borough have been extended to accommodate the additional information. Officials explained: “The simple addition of the townland name will be commenced following confirmation of a consistent approach with Carrickfergus and Ballymena councils.”
