Safety scheme for ‘death trap’ flats
The move comes just a few months after a fire at Woodland House during which dozens of residents had to be evacuated from the 14-floor building.
In the aftermath of the blaze, which caused smoke damage to a number of flats, worried residents of Woodland House and neighbouring Beechwood House raised serious concerns about fire safety at the two blocks, branding the flats “a death trap.”

Hide AdThey urged the Housing Executive to move forward with long-awaited health and safety improvements at the tower blocks, including changes to the “flawed” ventilation system and the installation of an audible fire alarm system and fire doors.
This week the Housing Executive confirmed that it will be “consulting shortly” with residents on a range of proposed safety improvement works at Woodland House and Beechwood House.
