Funeral date set for Martin McGuinness

Former deputy First Minister, Mid Ulster MLA and MP Martin McGuinness is to be laid to rest in his home city on Thursday afternoon.

The 66-year-old passed away "peacefully" at Altnagelvin Hospital surrounded by his family.

Mr McGuinness's funeral will leave his home on Westland Terrace - where his remains are to be brought this afternoon (Tuesday) - at 1.20pm for Requiem Mass at St Columba's Long Tower Chapel at 2pm.

Sinn Féin has organised a vigil in Belfast tonight at 7.30pm to mark his death, but it unclear whether a Mid Ulster vigil has been arranged.

He leaves behind wife Bernadette, children Grainne, Fionnuala, Fiachra and Emmet and grandchildren.
