Brussels attacks: Ballymoney students are '˜all safe and well'

Day 3 of our Year 10 History trip to the trenches and battlefields of the WW1 saw them go across into Belgium to visit Tyne Cot Cemetery, the largest of the Commonwealth Graves, a German cemetery at Langemark and Essex Farm Cemetery. inbm14-16s

A group of pupils from Dalraida school, have expressed their shock and relief after narrowly missing the terrorist attacks which rocked Brussels on Tuesday morning.

The Year 10 pupils, who were on a four day history trip to Spain, France and Belgium, were at Brussels international airport only 12 hours before the explosions.

A post on Social Media from a Dalraida representative on Tuesday at 8.39am, said: “Just to confirm that the trip to Belgium arrived home safe and well at 12.45am this morning.”

In response Julie Barrett thanked the teachers for a great trip adding: “Just relieved that everyone is safe when you see the news.”

Day 4 saw a busy day for Dalriada pupils with visits to Hill 62 and Sanctuary Wood, it's museum and the trenches. They finished the trip back in Ypres with a visit to highly impressive Passchendaele Museum and its restored trenches. INBM14-16S

Christine Brown also added on Facebook: “All had a great time, our thoughts with people of Brussels.”

The attacks, which took place at Zaventem airport and a metro station in the city, claimed the lives of more than 30 people and left dozens more injured.
